You may have noticed the recent trend of everyone making vision boards and are probably wondering what the fuss is all about, if you should also make one & how to? So this article is about Vision Board, Its benefits & How to make one that will help you achieve your goals in 2020.
What is a Vision Board?
A vision board aka dream board is a collage of images, pictures, and affirmations of one’s dreams and desires, designed to serve as a source of inspiration and motivation to attain one’s goals. Simply put a vision board is like a “To Do list” in pictures and a bunch of quotes that remind, inspire or motivate you to put in effort, work & strategies required to achieve your goals.
Benefits of making one:
- It helps bring clarity of purpose. One thing I discovered while making my first vision board ever is how much thought I put into what went on my board. It helped me reflect and decide on the things that are most important to me for the year which showed me where I should be directing more of my energy to.
- It helps you see your dreams clearly. You might already have a picture of what your ideal life looks like in your mind but putting it on a vision board helps you see it even better and you begin to connect more with this dream and believe it is achievable.
- It motivates you. Each time you glance at your vision board, you are constantly reminded of your goals which pushes you to do something about them because the quickest way to achieve anything is to ACT. So think of your vision board as an alarm clock telling you daily that it’s time to get up and work on getting the life you deserve.
Now to the fun part which is Creating a Vision Board that works!
Most people just look at magazines for fancy things, cut them up & paste on their boards which is why it may not serve it’s purpose at the end of the day. Instead I recommend you write down those goals you have first and take time to think about them. Make sure they are the things you really want and not the things people expect you to want. They should be the things that make you happy in life, that reflects your values because at the end of the day, we all don’t necessarily care about the same things.
Once you have put those down, next is to find pictures, words & maybe quotes that reflects this things to you. They don’t have to make sense to others who see it as long as they resonate with you. To do this I suggest using Google to search, find and print out the ones you like best rather than using magazines which can be limiting.
Finally cut out and paste them on your board & voila! You have your very own vision board.
